One of the most effective ways to protect a foundation is to stop water before it ever reaches the foundation wall. That’s why an exterior membrane solution is considered one of the most comprehensive solutions available for basements and foundations.

Over time, water-saturated soil surrounding a home can place tremendous pressure against foundation walls. This hydrostatic pressure forces moisture against the concrete, which can lead to water seepage, foundation cracks, structural deterioration, and basement leaks. At Foundation Restoration, our exterior membrane system creates a durable barrier between the foundation and the surrounding soil. The process typically begins with the application of a thick asphalt-based coating directly to the exterior foundation wall. We then install a high-density polyethylene membrane that provides an additional layer of protection against moisture intrusion. Depending on the project’s needs, a 2-inch rigid foam insulation board may also be installed to provide added protection.

Together, these materials form a continuous shield that prevents groundwater from penetrating the foundation wall. When combined with a properly designed exterior drainage system, water is safely redirected away from the home before it can create pressure against the structure.
