Grand Blanc MI – Foundation Repair with Helical Piering
Watch this time-lapse example of something that sets Foundation Restoration apart form the competition – we saved this home that no other company wanted to touch.
One of the most challenging types of repair that a home might require, are repairs needed to the foundation itself. It’s not uncommon for homes to settle a little bit over the years, but if left unchecked this could lead to much bigger problems as time goes on.
We recently received a call from a homeowner in Grand Blanc with one of the most extreme cases of foundation settlement that we’ve seen in quite some time. What started out as a real estate investment for a nice brick home on a concrete slab, turned into a massive headache due to structural issues with the foundation. It turns out the house had sunk 26 inches, a rare case of full-structure settlement.
The homeowner called multiple foundation repair companies across Michigan, hoping someone could help. The responses from our competitors ranged from “We don’t have the capability” up to “It can’t be saved”. That’s when he reached out to Foundation Restoration.
When Others Said It Couldn’t Be Saved – We Got to Work
This amount of settlement on a foundation presents a unique challenge. The reason very few companies do this sort of work is because it’s difficult to do well, and that’s something that we pride ourselves on here at Foundation Restoration. So we sent out Jeff Mullins, one of our most experienced senior inspectors, to assess the home. By that point, the homeowner was on the verge of giving up. After hearing from so many experts that the house was beyond saving, he was seriously considering tearing it down. However, after a thorough inspection, we assured him that we could save the house. Check out the timelapse of the whole process below:
Fortunately for the homeowner, the entire house had settled somewhat evenly. Although it was dipping to one side, there were no cracks in the brick. This was a good sign, albeit somewhat unusual. Most foundation issues are concentrated in one area, causing part of the structure to break away from the stable portion. In this case, the entire house had been sinking in a uniform direction. But with the amount of foundation settlement being 26 inches, this made for a complex and delicate repair.
Once we got to work, our skilled crew spent an entire week stabilizing and carefully lifting the home. The process was precise, calculated, and performed using advanced equipment and proven methods.
This is the sort of thing that sets us apart from our competition. The home was successfully lifted and restored, rather than being demolished. Additionally, our repair work comes with a lifetime transferable warranty, giving the homeowner peace of mind and adding significant value to his investment.
