One of the most common calls we get is from homeowners with a crawlspace that has excess moisture. Many crawlspaces were initially built with no encapsulation, and this can leave the foundation of a home vulnerable to damage. In addition to the direct problems caused by water freezing and thawing during our Michigan winters, there is also the issue of mold and mildew which seeps into your home from the crawlspace. To solve this initial problem, we repaired and waterproofed the back wall of the basement. We also did a full crawlspace encapsulation for both crawlspaces. Once we had the foundation protected, we then added a battery backup system for the sump pump, and installed a dehumidifier. It’s important to remember that once the repair is done, protection needs to be put in place to mitigate future problems from possibly reoccurring.
After the job was done, the homeowner was so pleased with the work we did that they called us back out to finish waterproofing the rest of the basement! We’ve done a lot of work in Lapeer County, but this home in Dryden Twp was a great example of our prior work with a homeowner leading to additional work in the future.
